What We Mean to Each Other: Relationship-Driven Scenes with Meredith Howell and Lacey Mamak
10:00am - 12:00pm Join the members of I Like You to explore grounded, relationship-focused scenes that center emotional honesty on stage. Discover what happens when we let go of the need to be funny or fast and act with authenticity and vulnerability to make choices that serve the relationship. This is also an opportunity to explore the kinds of queer-centered characters, relationships, and conversations we want to see on stage. I Like You is the improv duo of Lacey Mamak and Meredith Howell focused on relationship-driven scenes grounded in authenticity and play.
Meredith Howell (she/her) has been learning and performing improv since 2014. Trained at the Torch Theatre (RIP) in Phoenix, AZ, her improv education is in long form improv with a focus on building relationships on stage. After completing Torch’s six-level education program in 2016, she continued to perform and began coaching and teaching. Her background as an elementary school teacher helped her step into an educational role in the improv world. While serving on Torch’s board in 2019, Meredith helped develop the Level One curriculum. Meredith moved to Minneapolis in 2022 and has performed at HUGE Theater, Strike Theater, and Bryant Lake Bowl. She guested in the 2023 Twin Cities Improv Festival with both Rule of Three and Loretta Ocelot. You can see her on stage with the Improvised Twilight Zone, Bechdel Test, Hilda, and I Like You.
Lacey Mamak (they/he) has been studying and performing long form improvisational theater since 2018. They were a member of the majority queer/trans improv group The Sharpies and have performed at HUGE Theater, Strike Theater, Bryant Lake Bowl, and other venues. Their current improv teams include Joy Boys with Britt Johnson and Charlie Cecile and I Like You with Meredith Howell. |
Balancing Purpose and Performance with Alsa Bruno
2:30pm - 4:30pm Burnout is real and your work is important. Putting your identity into your art and work in a world that threatens your identity is EXHAUSTING and you deserve to not be burnt because you love what you do. In this workshop, we will engage in exercises dedicated to unpacking our intentions as performers and building our communal capacity to rest. The goal of this workshop is to create a community ability to rest and regenerate so that when you perform, your work is not simply sustainable, but it is the sustenance you use to create more art. Alsa Bruno is a youthworker and comedian based out of the Twin Cities. He got detention very often as a student and loves to sing. Alsa has been a teaching artist for over a decade and is very very grateful to Jada Pulley for creating this necessary ass funny ass queer ass festival. |
